PIERRE SERIES The Pierre series consists of moderately deep, well

The Pierre Shale is the youngest Cretaceous unit in the state of Nebraska. It was deposited during the Campanian and Maastrichtian (~70-80 million years ago). This unit consists of dark gray/black shales that were deposited in deep marine waters.Shales play a major role in the stability of slopes, both natural and engineered. This paper attempts to provide a review of the state-of-the-art in shale slope stability. The complexities of shale terminology and classification are first reviewed followed by a brief discussion of the important physical and mechanical properties of relevance to shale slope stability. The varied mechanisms of ...Membrane efficiency versus calculated salt radius and CEC/surface area for Pierre type I shale exposed to chloride salt solutions at a water activity of 0.76 (van Oort et al., 1995). The ratio of the ion size to the pore throat size determines the ability of shale to restrict solutes from entering or leaving the pore space in shale matrix.

Yes, Pierre Shale bone preservation is generally known to be crappy and infiltrated with gypsum. Not coated, but infiltrated all throughout the bones. But I have never seen any oil/tar or other blatant hydrocarbons in the Wyoming or South Dakota materials I have collected or worked on. You can do a quick test for oil in the fossil by sniffing ...Fox Hills Formation. The Fox Hills Formation is a Cretaceous geologic formation in the northwestern Great Plains of North America. It is present from Alberta on the north to Colorado in the south. Fossil remains of dinosaurs, including tyrannosaurs, as well as large marine reptiles, such as mosasaurs, have been recovered from the formation.Brule Formation. The Brule Formation was deposited between 33 and 30 million years ago, roughly the Rupelian age ( Oligocene ). [2] It occurs as a subunit of the White River Formation in Nebraska, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming . It is a sequence of fine grained clastic rocks ( claystones, mudstones, siltstones) interbedded ...Pierre Shale in the northern Great Plains (Shurr, 1977; 1980). A computer scan of the "Well History Control System", produced by the Petroleum Infor mation Corporation, selected one well per township from the 33,000 wells which penetrated the Pierre. The resulting sample of 5,000 control pointsThe reasons for choosing Mancos shale are as follows: (1) Shale is deeply buried in China, and the existing cutting force models are insufficient to predict the cutting force of deep shale; (2) Mancos shale does not have as many clay grains as Pierre shale, for which the matrix completely collapses as long as the total bottom hole pressure ...Attention! Furthermore, the artificial origin of shale gives it a particular geochemical meaning.Posted November 22, 2012. Last week I had the opportunity to collect baculites and other Cretaceous invertebrates at Baculite Mesa, east of Pueblo, CO. The exposed late Cretaceous grey Pierre Shale on the eroded slopes and gullies yields baculites. Personal recommendation here; paint the top surface with consolidate. Apply liberally and give it a day to evaporate off the acetone. A strong desk lamp over the top will actually help the process. But dont move it around.
