Its been said the Glennies shoot more accurately than the 336's because of the fore arm end cap. I can't speak to that really, but they have turned me into a Marlin fan. I like them pretty darn well.Brophy's book on Marlin Firearms devotes about 25 pages (outside of appendices) to the model 336 and Glenfield 30. It is an outstanding reference on everything Marlin up until the late 1980s. It covers your models completely, and is available on ebay, Amazon, etc for ~$70; worth every penny!

By my research it was made in 1973 based on the serial number. There is still plenty of rifling left so it hasn't been used that much.
